Place the Press’s machines, books and Munshiji himself in your room with a phone, or stand among all six artefacts in a VR headset. Everything runs in your browser.
Checking your device…
One moment.
This check runs only in your browser. Nothing is recorded or sent.
ANDROID · INCLUDING SAMSUNG GALAXY
Android phones and tablets
Set up once (about five minutes)
- Install or update Google Play Services for AR from the Play Store. It is free and comes from Google.
- Update Google Chrome.
- Check your phone is ARCore-certified. Recent Samsung Galaxy S, Z and many A-series phones are, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Place an artefact
- Open an encounter from the AR trail in Chrome. On Samsung Internet, or inside Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp, use the Open this page in Chrome button that appears.
- Let the 3D model load, then tap the AR button (for example Place this encounter in AR).
- Allow the camera. Sweep slowly over a textured, well-lit floor until the ring appears, then tap to place.
- Walk around it. Pinch to resize, twist two fingers to rotate. Animations — the type-casting bench, the swaying pages, Munshiji’s walk — play inside AR.
- Use your phone’s back gesture to leave AR.
At Le Press: life-size and in place
Stand beside a guardian sign and open life-size AR · Walk the full model in VR ↗. The campus model appears full-size around you, aligned to its real coordinates; tap I’m facing the chimney to lock the direction.
Turn off power-saving mode while using AR; it slows camera tracking.
iPHONE · iPAD
iPhone and iPad
Nothing to install
Apple’s AR Quick Look is built into iOS and iPadOS 12 and later. Use Safari.
Place an artefact
- Open an encounter from the AR trail in Safari. From Instagram or WhatsApp, tap ⋯ or the share icon and choose Open in Safari.
- Let the model load and tap its AR button. Quick Look opens.
- Tap AR at the top of the screen and move the phone until the model sits on the floor.
- Drag to move, pinch to scale. Tap ✕ to return to the page.
Quick Look shows a still version of each exhibit. To watch Munshiji walk or the pages sway, use the animated 3D view on the page itself.
VR HEADSETS
VR headsets
Open the VR artefact gallery to stand in a circle of all six artefacts, or the tabletop campus model. Press Enter VR.
Meta Quest
Open the gallery in Meta Quest Browser and choose Enter VR. Point a controller and pull the trigger on an artefact to turn it.
Apple Vision Pro
Open the gallery in Safari on visionOS 2 or later and choose Enter VR. Look at an artefact and pinch to turn it. Vision Pro supports the VR view, not camera AR, for web pages.
Samsung Galaxy XR · Android XR
Open the gallery in Chrome on the headset and choose Enter VR. Allow the requested tracking permission.
A phone on its own does not offer the VR view. On a phone, the gallery opens as an interactive 3D room you can turn and explore by touch.
LAPTOP · DESKTOP
On a computer
- The virtual museum (28 departments, narrated tour), the 17 interactive machines and the artefact gallery all run in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Drag to turn, scroll to zoom.
- Want camera AR? Open the same link on your phone.
- Download the artefacts and the campus model as GLB files from Spatial data. Open them in any glTF-compatible viewer or in Blender (free) via File › Import › glTF 2.0.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If something does not work
| WHAT YOU SEE | WHAT TO DO |
|---|---|
| No AR button on Android | Open the page in Chrome (not Samsung Internet or an in-app browser). Update Google Play Services for AR and reload. |
| No AR button on iPhone | Open the page in Safari. In-app browsers and some third-party browsers cannot open Quick Look. |
| The placement ring never appears | Add light, aim at a textured floor (not glass, polished marble or plain white tile) and move the phone slowly. |
| Camera permission was refused | Android: Chrome ⋮ › Settings › Site settings › Camera › allow lepress.in. iPhone: Settings › Safari › Camera › Ask or Allow. |
| Model loads slowly | Switch to Wi-Fi. Opening an encounter once at home caches it for your visit. |
| No Enter VR button | Use a VR headset’s own browser. Phones show the 3D room instead. |
Your camera opens only when you choose AR, and no footage is recorded or uploaded. Placements last for your session and are not locked to the buildings. All reconstructions are interpretive; see the accuracy notice.
AT LE PRESS
Scan a guardian. Place a story.
On campus, scan any of the six printed guardian QR signs with your phone camera to open that stop’s encounter.
